Apollo 11 - 45th Anniversary Commemoration Education and Outreach streamed event activities
Cathy Smith, Rolla Public Library. The library held its first Adult Summer Reading Program in 2013. The library had 155 adults register for the program with 105 successfully completing it. One of the primary ways the library was able to reach this audience was holding evening programs that appealed to adults.
Kathleen Gallagher, University City Public Library. The library is gearing up for its fourth year of hosting the Adult Summer Reading Big Book Challenge. Program participants have tackled War and Peace, Les Miserables and Don Quixote, and in 2014 they will read and discuss George Eliot’s Middlemarch. Readers happily report that with the help of others, seemingly daunting classics become approachable and enjoyable. In 2013, library staff made a special effort to reach people with print disabilities by partnering with Wolfner Talking Book and Braille Library and Agape, the local affiliate of the Missouri Council of the Blind.
Danya Walker, Joplin Public Library. In addition to adult program events, popular activities in the past have included Book Bingo, which introduces participants to a variety of genres and library services and programs, and a murder mystery finale.
